Interestingly, one of the large Local Circles surveys has received an overwhelming 91% response for the Waqf Bill that is meant to bring better management as well as regulation of Waqf properties all over the country. It is one of the largest kinds of surveys that have gathered a sample size of 47,149 respondents in 388 districts all over the nation.
A meager 8% still oppose the bill; thus, in the perception of most, a general consensus is reached on an immediate need for change in the treatment of Waqf properties. A copy of this survey will be formally submitted to the JPC. A further reflection on the need and sense of urgency for this bill will be submitted to the committee.
Call for Mandatory Registration Interestingly, 96% of respondents want the Waqf boards to get all the Waqf properties registered with the district collectors. An impressive majority of the public hence hungers for greater accountability and transparency in the administration of usually mismanaged and controversial Waqf properties.
Encouragement toward obligatory registration reflects the joint effort to cause the assets of Waqf to be well and effectively documented and safeguarded for augmentation of their utility for community welfare. Eventually, results will be a valuable means of assessing the final legislative outcome and in highlighting some of the nagging issues about property management that dominate public discourse around the Waqf Bill.
