If you have been waiting to buy a new Mac, today is the day to act. Apple opened pre-orders in India on October 28 for its new M6-powered 14-inch MacBook Pro and 24-inch iMac, a day after unveiling both machines. The MacBook Pro starts at Rs 2,39,900, while the iMac starts at Rs 1,74,900. Both go on sale on November 6.
The headline change is the chip inside. The M6 is Apple’s first chip built on a 2-nanometre process, and Apple is pitching it on two fronts: faster graphics and faster on-device artificial intelligence. The designs stay familiar. Whether the gains justify the price will depend largely on what you are upgrading from.
The M6 chip: more cores, faster AI
The M6 has a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, two more cores on each side than the M5. The GPU carries Neural Accelerators in each core, and the chip has a dual 16-core Neural Engine. That is the hardware behind Apple’s AI claims for these machines.
Apple says the M6 delivers up to 30 percent faster graphics and up to 25 percent faster on-device AI than the M5. The Neural Engine is rated up to 1.9 times faster, which Apple says should help with image generation, AI-assisted editing and running large language models on the device.
Against older machines, Apple claims graphics up to 11 times faster and AI up to 13 times faster in certain tasks than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1. Those are Apple’s own figures, not independent benchmarks. Memory starts at 16GB, configurable up to 32GB.
MacBook Pro: 24-hour battery is the big story
For laptop buyers, battery life may matter more than any benchmark. Apple claims up to 24 hours for the new 14-inch MacBook Pro, calling it the longest ever in a Mac. That is up to four additional hours compared with the M1 model, and up to 14 additional hours compared with Intel-based models, according to Apple.
The laptop keeps the 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display with up to 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness, plus an optional nano-texture finish to cut glare. It comes in Space Black and Silver, with a 12MP Center Stage camera, six speakers, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and runs macOS 27 with Apple Intelligence and a more conversational Siri.
iMac: colour, camera and M6 speed
The 24-inch iMac gets the same M6 treatment, with a 4.5K Retina display. It comes in seven colours: blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver.

Apple offers two configurations: the 10-core model from Rs 1,74,900 (Rs 1,68,900 for education buyers) and the 12-core model from Rs 1,99,900 (Rs 1,87,900 for education buyers), with up to 32GB of memory and 2TB of storage. Apple says it is up to 1.5 times faster at productivity, twice as fast at graphics and up to five times faster at on-device AI than the M4 iMac.

Should you buy, or wait?
If you are on an M1 or Intel Mac and your work regularly pushes the machine, this is a sensible upgrade point. The battery gain alone will change how a MacBook Pro fits into a working day. Students and teachers should check education pricing first: the saving on the MacBook Pro is Rs 12,000.
If you already own an M4 or M5 Mac, the case is weaker: the design is largely unchanged. Waiting for independent reviews before spending close to Rs 2.4 lakh is safer. The M6 models also have no touchscreen; touchscreen models have only been reported, not confirmed.
For now, Apple’s message is clear: the M6 is about doing more AI work on the device itself, for longer, without reaching for the charger. Pre-orders are open today. The reviews will tell us how much of that promise holds up in daily use.
