India’s Cabinet Approves Five Key Decisions to Boost Economy, Innovation and Cooperation

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved five important decisions on Wednesday, December 17, 2023, that will have a positive impact on the country’s economy, innovation and cooperation with other nations.

Surat Airport Declared as an International Airport

The Cabinet has given its approval for the declaration of Surat Airport as an International Airport. This will add to the economic potential of the city, which is one of the fastest growing urban areas in the world and a hub for diamond and textile industries. The international status will also enable the airport to connect with the global aviation network and facilitate the movement of passengers and cargo.

MoU with USA to Enhance Innovation Ecosystems

The Cabinet has also approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States of America and India to enhance innovation ecosystems through an innovation handshake. The MoU aims to foster collaboration between the two countries in the areas of science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. The innovation handshake will involve the exchange of best practices, policies, programs and initiatives that support innovation and entrepreneurship.

MoC with Saudi Arabia on Digitization and Electronic Manufacturing

The Cabinet has given its nod to the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between India and Saudi Arabia on cooperation in the field of Digitization and Electronic manufacturing. The MoC will promote ways of innovative training through e-Teaching, e-learning and exchange programs in the digitization and electronics manufacturing sectors. The MoC will also facilitate the development of joint projects, research and development, and capacity building.

MoU with Tanzania on Sharing Digital Solutions

The Cabinet has approved the signing of a MoU between India and Tanzania on cooperation in field of sharing successful digital solutions implemented at population scale for digital transformations. The MoU will enable the two countries to share their experiences and best practices in implementing digital solutions for various sectors such as health, education, agriculture, governance and financial inclusion. The MoU will also enhance the bilateral cooperation and partnership between the two countries in the digital domain.

MoU with Italy on Industrial Property Rights

The Cabinet has given its consent to the signing of a MoU between India and Italy on cooperation in Industrial Property Rights. The MoU will support enterprises, especially start-ups and SMEs in accessing and participating in the national and international IPR systems. The MoU will also facilitate the exchange of information, expertise and training on IPR issues and enforcement.
