For statistics graduates in Telangana who have been waiting for a proper state-level opening, the wait is finally over. The Telangana Public Service Commission has released the notification for 102 Mandal Planning and Statistical Officer and Assistant Statistical Officer posts, and the online application window opens tomorrow, October 30. It is one of those notifications aspirants check for every year, and this time the numbers, the dates and the exam plan are all out in one go.
The posts are in the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, and they carry a zonal cadre, which means candidates will be considered zone-wise. The notification, numbered 07/G/ES/2026, was released on October 28, 2026. Applications will be accepted online only, and the last date is November 27, 2026, up to 5 pm.
102 vacancies across seven zones
The 102 vacancies are spread across all seven zones. Charminar has the largest share with 25 posts, followed by Bhadradri with 17 and Rajanna with 15. Basara has 14, Kaleshwaram and Jogulamba have 12 each, and Yadadri has 7.
These are not general graduate posts where any degree will do. The work is about data, planning and statistics at the mandal and district level, and the eligibility rules reflect that.
Who can apply
The basic qualification is a bachelor’s degree with Statistics as one of the main subjects. Candidates with a degree in Mathematics, Economics, Commerce or Computer Science can also apply, provided Statistics was a paper in one year, two years or all three years of the degree, as the case may be. Applicants should match their own degree against the exact wording in the notification before paying the fee.
The age limit is 18 to 44 years as on July 1, 2026. Relaxation is available for eligible categories, including five years for SC, ST, BC and EWS candidates and ten years for persons with disabilities. Telangana state government employees, ex-servicemen and NCC instructors also get relaxation as specified in the notification.

Fees, and a useful exemption to note
There are two fee components. The application processing fee is Rs 1,000 for OC and BC candidates and Rs 500 for SC, ST and PwD candidates. The examination fee is Rs 80. All unemployed applicants are exempted from the examination fee, which is a relief for many first-time applicants. Payment has to be made online, and candidates should keep the payment receipt and the application reference ID safe.
Completing One Time Registration, or OTR, alone does not count as an application. Candidates must log in with their TGPSC ID, date of birth and the OTP sent to their registered mobile number, open the application link for Notification No. 07/G/ES/2026, verify the details fetched from the OTR database, choose an examination centre and then submit the form.
Exam pattern: two papers, 300 marks
Selection will be through an objective-type written examination, followed by document verification and a final merit list. The written test has two papers of 150 marks each, making 300 marks in total. Paper I covers General Studies and General Abilities, while Paper II covers Statistics at degree level and is common to both posts. Each paper runs for 150 minutes, and there is negative marking, with one-third of a mark deducted for every wrong answer. The examination will be held in English and Telugu.
The written examination is tentatively scheduled for January 2027. Hall tickets will be available from seven days before the examination. The minimum qualifying marks are 40 percent for OC and EWS candidates, 35 percent for BC candidates, and 30 percent for SC, ST and persons with disabilities. The listed centres are Hyderabad, including HMDA jurisdiction, Karimnagar, Khammam, Warangal and Nizamabad. Selected candidates will be placed in the pay scale of Rs 36,750 to Rs 1,06,990.
What to do before October 30
Tomorrow is the opening day, not the deadline, so there is time to get the paperwork right. Candidates should keep their degree certificates, mark sheets showing the statistics papers, caste or category certificate if applicable, and a working mobile number and email ID ready. They should read the full notification on the official TGPSC website before filling the form.
For many aspirants, the real preparation starts after the form is submitted. Paper II will reward those who revise degree-level statistics properly, while Paper I will test general awareness and ability. Starting that revision now is better than waiting for the hall ticket.
