India has emerged as a global leader in 6G technology, with over 200 patents acquired by Indian scientists, engineers and academicians so far. This was announced by IT and Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the launch of Bharat 6G Alliance in New Delhi on Thursday.
Vaishnaw said that India is taking a leap in 5G technology with the fastest rollout of networks in the world. He said that India has achieved this feat by investing heavily in research and development, fostering innovation and collaboration, and creating a conducive ecosystem for startups and entrepreneurs.
He also said that India has become USD 3.5 trillion, and it can become the world’s largest economy with transformation across governance, infrastructure and businesses. He said that India has no dearth of talent, and there is a need to channelise them for achieving this vision.
He also praised the Bharat 6G Alliance, which is a consortium of leading academic institutions, research organisations, industry players and government agencies working together to develop 6G solutions. He said that the alliance aims to create cutting-edge technologies for various domains such as health care, education, agriculture, smart cities and defence.
He also highlighted some of the achievements of India in 5G technology, such as launching over 397 cities with 5G coverage, exporting radio equipment to the US, making mobile phones locally, and becoming a world exporter of fisheries and fish food.
He said that India is ready to take on the challenges and opportunities of 6G technology, which will enable unprecedented levels of connectivity, intelligence and efficiency. He said that India will be at the forefront of shaping the future of humanity with its scientific prowess and innovation.
