For MBA aspirants across India, there is one placement statistic that has always mattered more than any ranking table. This week, XLRI Xavier School of Management gave the country a fresh one to talk about: every single student in its 2026-28 batch has secured a summer internship, with a median monthly stipend of Rs 1.80 lakh.
The institute announced on Friday that its summer internship placement process for the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Business Management) and PGDM (Human Resource Management) programmes has concluded. All 587 participating students from the Jamshedpur and Delhi-NCR campuses received internship offers. A total of 106 organisations participated in the process, making 594 offers between them.
The numbers underline why XLRI remains one of the most closely watched campuses in the country. The average monthly stipend stood at Rs 1.75 lakh, while the highest monthly stipend touched Rs 3.50 lakh. Thirty-two recruiters took part in the institute’s summer placement process for the first time, a sign that corporate India continues to bet on the campus as a source of early leadership talent.
Where the offers came from
Consulting firms once again dominated the hiring, accounting for 30 per cent of the roles offered. Accenture, Bain & Company, Boston Consulting Group, Deloitte, EY-Parthenon, KPMG and PwC were among the recruiters that hired for consulting roles.
Fast-moving consumer goods, retail and consumer businesses contributed 21 per cent of the roles. This segment saw participation from Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola, Asian Paints, Nestle and Tata Consumer Products, with roles spanning marketing, sales, supply chain and operations.

E-commerce, technology and media companies accounted for 19 per cent of the roles, hiring for product management, analytics and programme management positions. Amazon, Flipkart, Google, Cisco, Meesho, Swiggy, Zepto and JioStar recruited from the batch.
The banking, financial services and insurance sector also made its presence felt, with American Express, Axis Bank, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, ICICI Bank, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Kotak Mahindra Bank and HDFC ERGO General Insurance hiring interns for finance roles.
What this means for MBA aspirants
A 100 per cent summer placement rate matters for reasons beyond the headline. For first-year MBA students, a summer internship is often the first serious brush with the corporate world, and it frequently converts into a pre-placement offer. When the entire batch gets placed, it signals that recruiters trust the quality of the cohort as a whole, not just its top performers.
The stipend figures carry their own message. A median of Rs 1.80 lakh per month for a two-month summer internship puts the programme on par with what many experienced professionals earn in a month. For students weighing the high fees of a top B-school, these numbers are a reminder of why the return-on-investment conversation keeps tilting in favour of elite campuses.
A wider recovery in campus hiring
The XLRI numbers land at a time when the broader hiring market is showing signs of recovery. Staffing data for October 2026 has pointed to the strongest tech hiring in 18 months, and large employers have continued to announce fresher hiring plans through the placement season. While the recovery has so far favoured experienced professionals, strong campus numbers like these suggest that the pipeline for young talent is opening up as well.
That said, students should keep perspective. What happens at a handful of top campuses is not the same as what happens across the thousands of management institutes in the country. The lesson for aspirants is not that internships are guaranteed everywhere, but that targeted preparation for consulting, FMCG and tech roles, the three biggest recruiters at XLRI this season, remains the safest bet for a strong start.
