PhonePe has rebranded its stock broking and investment platform Share.Market as PhonePe Invest, pulling its entire wealth management business under the PhonePe name. The announcement, made on Monday, also brings a new Portfolio Optimiser tool that promises to help users build, review and fix their investment portfolios in one place.
It is one of the bigger fintech moves of the year, and it signals where PhonePe wants to go next: from the app you use to pay your kirana bill to the app that manages your savings, mutual funds and stocks too.
From Share.Market to PhonePe Invest
Share.Market was launched as a separate brand aimed at active investors and traders. That worked, but it also boxed the platform in. A dedicated broking app appeals to people who already buy stocks; it does not mean much to the millions who save in gold, fixed deposits or mutual funds and have never opened a demat account.
PhonePe Invest changes that positioning. Stocks, IPOs, mutual funds and futures and options (F&O) now sit inside the broader PhonePe financial ecosystem, alongside payments, lending and insurance. The company says the move makes research-backed investing more accessible to its large user base, and lets it reach people who have never thought of themselves as investors.
The rebrand is an evolution of the same platform rather than a brand new app, so existing Share.Market users move over under the new name.
What the Portfolio Optimiser does
The centrepiece of the launch is Portfolio Optimiser, a proprietary portfolio intelligence tool that combines PhonePe Invest’s product lineup with portfolio analysis and investment insights. It is built around three functions:
- Build: helps new investors start their investing journey and put together a first portfolio with clarity, instead of staring at a blank stock list.
- Review: gives a consolidated view of portfolio health and diversification across all demat accounts an investor holds, with research-backed Hold, Monitor or Sell ratings on existing investments.
- Optimise: flags underperforming assets, sector concentration risks and other drag factors, then lets investors switch to smarter alternatives and rebalance their portfolios in a single click.
The idea is to move beyond mere trade execution. As the company puts it, the tool supports every stage of the investor journey, guiding beginners with simple tools while giving experienced users deep, actionable insights on

Chasing the everyday saver
Rahul Chari, PhonePe’s Founder and Chief Product and Technology Officer, told PTI that the rebrand reflects a real shift in strategy. Share.Market was designed for active investors and traders, he said, but that is a small slice compared with PhonePe’s wider user base.
The bigger opportunity, according to Chari, is the millions of Indians who save through gold, fixed deposits and mutual funds, and who have started putting small, regular amounts into financial products beyond the metros and Tier 1 cities. He described this as the “sachet model” of financial services: PhonePe lets users invest in gold and mutual funds through daily SIPs starting at just Rs 10, while lump-sum mutual fund investments begin at Rs 100.
PhonePe Invest, in his words, is a “bridge” that can help some of these savers take their first steps into equities. That is a much larger market than active trading, and it explains why the company wants its investing platform to carry the familiar PhonePe name.
What it means for investors
- One brand, one ecosystem: payments, lending, insurance and now wealth management live under a single identity.
- Portfolio health in one view: the Review function consolidates holdings across all demat accounts, which is genuinely useful for anyone with accounts at more than one broker.
- Research-backed ratings: Hold, Monitor or Sell calls give direction without requiring users to do their own deep analysis.
- One-click rebalancing: the Optimise function promises to identify weak spots and switch to better alternatives seamlessly.
- Beginner-friendly entry: the Build function lowers the intimidation factor for first-time equity investors.
The timing is deliberate. With Indian markets posting their strongest weekly gains in six months and retail participation deepening, fintech players are racing to convert savers into investors. A trusted payments brand with hundreds of millions of users has a natural advantage in that race, and PhonePe Invest is the vehicle built to exploit it.
