University of Delhi has opened one of its biggest non-teaching recruitment drives in recent years, inviting online applications for 126 Senior Assistant and Assistant posts under Advertisement No. R&P/323/2026. The notification, dated 19 October 2026, was released on Monday and the application window opens this Friday, 23 October, on the university’s official website du.ac.in.

These are direct-recruitment administrative posts at the university in Delhi, open to graduates who already have a few years of relevant work experience. If you are working as an assistant, junior assistant or in an equivalent post in a government department, university, PSU or even a large private organisation, this drive could be a straight step up the ladder.

How the 126 vacancies are split

Of the 126 posts, 46 are for Senior Assistant and 80 are for Assistant. The university has also published the category-wise break-up:

  • Senior Assistant (46): Unreserved 21, SC 6, ST 3, OBC 12, EWS 4
  • Assistant (80): Unreserved 35, SC 11, ST 6, OBC 21, EWS 7

The Senior Assistant posts carry Pay Level 6 and the Assistant posts carry Pay Level 4 under the 7th Central Pay Commission, so the salary bands are the standard central-government scales that come with the usual allowances.

Who can apply: eligibility rules that matter

A bachelor’s degree alone is not enough for either post, and this is the detail candidates should read most carefully.

  • Senior Assistant: Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university, plus three years of experience as Assistant or an equivalent post at Level 4 in a Central or State government department, university, PSU or autonomous body. Experience in reputed private companies or corporate banks with an annual turnover of at least Rs 200 crore counts too, provided the pay package is equivalent. Proficiency in computer applications, noting and drafting is also required.
  • Assistant: Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university, plus two years of experience as Junior Assistant or an equivalent post in a university, research establishment, government department, PSU or autonomous body, or equivalent pay in a reputed private company or corporate bank. You must also have typing speed of 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi, and proficiency in computer operations.

The age limits are 35 years for Senior Assistant and 32 years for Assistant, with the usual relaxations for reserved categories. Candidates must hold the prescribed qualifications and experience on the closing date of the application.

Application fee and how selection works

The application fee is Rs 1,000 for General/UR, Rs 800 for OBC (NCL), EWS and female candidates, and Rs 600 for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. Applicants who are eligible under the university’s earlier 2024 advertisement for the same posts are exempt from paying the fee again.

The selection process has three stages. First, a preliminary test: 100 multiple-choice questions carrying 200 marks, to be finished in two and a half hours, with 0.5 marks deducted for every wrong answer. Shortlisted candidates then sit a descriptive main examination of 200 marks over two hours. The final stage is a qualifying skill test of 100 marks, where you need at least 50 marks to qualify. The final merit list is drawn from the main examination, subject to qualifying the skill test.

A quiet examination hall with neatly arranged desks, rows of answer sheets and a clock on the wall, in soft morning light.
A calm, well-lit examination hall, the kind of setting shortlisted candidates will face in the DU recruitment test stages.

Important dates to remember

  • Notification date: 19 October 2026
  • Online applications open: 23 October 2026
  • Last date to apply: 9 November 2026, or within two weeks of the advertisement appearing in Employment News, whichever is later
  • Preliminary exam, main exam and skill test dates: to be announced

Note the closing date carefully. The advertisement fixes 9 November as the last date, but adds that applications will be accepted for two weeks from the date the ad appears in Employment News if that date is later. Do not treat 9 November as absolutely final; keep checking the university’s “Work with DU” announcements page for the confirmed deadline.

How to apply

Applications are online only, through the Work with DU section on du.ac.in, under Advertisement No. R&P/323/2026. The fee is also paid online, and no hard copy of the application needs to be sent. Fill in your personal and educational details, upload the documents in the prescribed format, pay the fee and submit before the deadline. Candidates already in service must arrange their No Objection Certificate, since failing to submit it on time can cancel the candidature.
