If you have ever dreamed of working at the launch pad from which India’s rockets lift off, today is your day. The Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, the Indian Space Research Organisation’s spaceport at Sriharikota, has released its biggest recruitment notification of the year: Advertisement No. SDSC SHAR/RMT/03/2026, dated 19 October 2026, inviting applications for 97 posts across technical and non-technical roles.

The notification covers everyone from Class 10 pass candidates to first-class graduates. Online applications opened at 10 am today and stay open until 11:59 pm on 9 November 2026, through the official portal, apps.shar.gov.in.

97 posts: who can apply for what

The largest share of the vacancies, 43 of them, is for Technician ‘B’ posts in trades such as fitter, electronic mechanic, electrician, chemical, boiler attendant, turner, refrigeration and air conditioning, civil engineering assistant and photography. To be eligible, you need Class 10 plus an ITI, NTC or NAC certificate in the relevant trade from NCVT.

Other openings include 14 Technical Assistant posts for first-class diploma holders, 16 Multi-Tasking Staff posts for Class 10 pass candidates, 3 Scientific Assistant posts for B.Sc. graduates with Physics, 3 Nurse ‘B’ and 3 Library Assistant ‘A’ posts, besides one Draughtsman, two Firemen and twelve drivers.

Most of the postings are at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, but a handful are at the Propellant Complex at Rasayani in Maharashtra, the Balasore Rocket Launching Station in Odisha and ADRIN in Secunderabad, Telangana. Seven posts across codes 16 to 28 are earmarked for ex-servicemen.

Pay: what you will earn

The posts span Pay Levels 1 to 7 under the Seventh Central Pay Commission. At the minimum of the level, the approximate starting gross works out to:

  • Level 7 (Technical Assistant, Scientific Assistant, Library Assistant, Nurse): Rs 71,840 a month, in the pay band of Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,42,400.
  • Level 3 (Technician ‘B’, Draughtsman ‘B’): Rs 34,720 a month.
  • Level 2 (Fireman ‘A’, drivers): Rs 31,840 a month.
  • Level 1 (Multi-Tasking Staff): Rs 28,800 a month.

HRA and transport allowance come on top, and selected candidates get medical facilities, canteen, LTC, group insurance and house building advance, along with the National Pension System or the Unified Pension Scheme.

Age, fee and selection process

The age limit, as on 9 November 2026, is 18 to 35 years for most posts, and 18 to 25 for Fireman ‘A’ and MTS. SC and ST candidates get five more years and OBC candidates three more against reserved posts.

The processing fee is Rs 750 for post codes 07 to 15 and Rs 500 for codes 16 to 30. It is refunded in full to women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates who appear for the written test, and partly to others. Apply separately for each post code you want, since the notification allows multiple post codes with separate fees.

Selection happens through a computer-based written test, followed by a qualifying skill test for most posts. Fireman candidates face a two-stage physical efficiency test and a detailed medical after the written test, and drivers need 60 per cent in the driving skill test. The skill test and the PET are go-no-go only: the final merit list is drawn purely on the written test score, and the exam will be held in 18 cities.

How to apply before 9 November

Check the trade list line by line before you apply: the Technical Assistant and Technician posts need a first-class diploma or an NCVT trade, not just any certificate.

  • Register on apps.shar.gov.in with your own email ID and mobile number, both are compulsory.
  • Fill in the form for your post code and upload your photo, signature and certificates.
  • Pay the processing fee online and submit before 9 November, 11:59 pm. Keep your bank details correct, since fee refunds are paid back to your account.
  • For Fireman ‘A’, get a preliminary medical certificate from a government doctor of Assistant Civil Surgeon rank or above before you apply, in the format given in the notification.
