Controversy has been created in Indore following a video uploaded by a young woman as she walked through the food markets, Chappan Dukan and Meghdoot Chaupati, sporting a bra and denim shorts. A video was posted ‘Public Reaction’, showing reactions of people passing by and soon it gained virality on all social media.
While some people defended it as a means of self-expression, many others did not approve of it when worn in public places. This forced her to come out publicly and apologize about her actions, pointing out that “the act has hurt the feelings of certain people.” She even claims that the backlash overwhelmed her at one point, and she would have taken her life webdriver.
#indoreviralvideo #Reel pic.twitter.com/QshQIS9444

A cabinet minister of the city of Indore, Kailash Vijayvargiya, resented her action and made public remarks that such behavior had no place in a culturally significant city like Indore. He also appealed for social consensus so that such incidents may not occur again. The local Hindu organizations reacted very sharply to this outcry by filing complaints with the police, which prompted investigation into the incident.
The case has now opened up a much broader debate on public decency and the daily walk between personal freedom and public norms. She would, on being questioned about her acts, defend herself but would most certainly avoid this in the future.

What does this case bring into question, indeed? It is a relation that in the present world asks questions on the tension of individual expression and what is considered social expectation? What would this be if social media develops public discourse?.
