Apple has done something it resisted for years. The first MacBook Pro models with a touchscreen go on sale in India today, 9 November 2026. The 14-inch starts at Rs 3,49,900 and the 16-inch at Rs 4,09,900.

For a company that long argued laptops do not need touchscreens, this is a notable change of direction. The new models keep the familiar MacBook Pro design, keyboard, trackpad and macOS experience, but add a touch layer to the display for the first time. Pre-orders opened on 28 October, and three other devices in the lineup, the OLED iPad mini, the M6 iMac and the standard 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro, have been on sale since 6 November. Today, the two touchscreen models complete the set.

A new display, and a familiar first

The headline change is the display. Both models use a tandem OLED panel that Apple calls PROLED XDR, with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and support for touch gestures. The 14-inch also brings Dynamic Island to the MacBook range for the first time.

Under the hood, buyers can choose between Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Apple is aiming these machines at professionals who run demanding creative workloads, video editing, design and photography, where touch can speed up scrubbing timelines and tapping tools.

The larger 16-inch model carries a 16.3-inch PROLED XDR screen with the same touch support and ProMotion refresh rates up to 120Hz. It can be configured with up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage.

What you get for the money

At Rs 3,49,900 for the 14-inch and Rs 4,09,900 for the 16-inch, these are the most expensive MacBook Pro models Apple has sold in India. The standard 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip, which went on sale on 6 November, costs Rs 2,39,900, so the touchscreen and OLED upgrade alone adds more than a lakh to the starting price.

There are limits worth knowing. The touchscreen MacBook Pro is not a convertible, it does not fold into a tablet mode, and it does not support Apple Pencil. Face ID has also not made the jump to the Mac, so buyers still unlock with Touch ID. And most macOS apps were designed around a keyboard and trackpad, so how far Apple extends touch across the system remains an open question.

The rest of the new lineup

The new iPad mini, on sale since 6 November, gets an 8.5-inch OLED display, Apple’s A20 Pro chip, a 12MP Centre Stage camera and IP67 water and dust resistance. It starts at Rs 82,900 for Wi-Fi and Rs 1,00,900 for cellular.

The updated iMac, powered by the M6 chip with Neural Accelerators for AI workloads, keeps its 24-inch 4.5K Retina display and slim design, and adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. It starts at Rs 1,74,900 for the base model and Rs 1,99,900 for the higher configuration. The standard 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip, a 12-core CPU and GPU, a Liquid Retina XDR display and a six-speaker sound system, is priced at Rs 2,39,900, with Apple claiming battery life of up to 24 hours.

Will buyers pay the premium?

Analysts are divided on whether touch alone will pull buyers in. Faisal Kawoosa, chief analyst at Techarc, has linked the move to changing user behaviour, noting that smartphone experiences increasingly shape what people expect from a laptop screen. Ashweej Aithal, senior analyst at Omdia, said touch input could make creative work more intuitive, but pointed out that Windows laptops have offered the feature for years. Bharath Shenoy, principal analyst at IDC India, expects the touchscreen MacBook to appeal particularly to filmmakers, photographers, designers and content creators, but believes it is likely to remain a niche product in India because of its pricing.

The touchscreen also raises a question about the iPad. If a MacBook can now do touch, some buyers may wonder whether they still need both devices, although analysts do not expect a big impact on iPad sales.

Competition is another factor. ARM-based Windows laptops are narrowing the performance and battery-life gap with Apple’s M-series chips, putting pressure on Apple to offer more than raw chip advantage. The touchscreen is a clear answer to that.

For now, the touchscreen MacBook Pro is a premium, professional machine, and its success will depend on whether the hardware justifies the price. Buyers in India can order from today.
