IPL 2024 Auction Update: Lockie Ferguson and Josh Hazlewood Remain Unsold at Base Price of Rs. 200 Lakh Each

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Auction, which was held on December 19 in Dubai, saw some exciting deals and some surprising snubs. The auction featured 333 players, out of which 214 were Indians and 119 were overseas players. The participating teams had a total of 77 slots to fill, out of which 30 could be overseas players.

The auction started with a base price of Rs. 50 lakh for each player, which could be increased by up to Rs. 10 crore depending on the category and performance of the player. The auction also allowed teams to trade players with each other, subject to certain conditions.

Some of the star players who got big contracts and handsome paychecks were:

  • Hardik Pandya and Cameron Green, who were traded from Mumbai Indians to Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs. 80 crore.
  • Rishabh Pant, who was retained by Delhi Capitals for Rs. 60 crore.
  • David Warner, who was retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 50 crore.
  • Vicky Ostwal, who was retained by Punjab Kings for Rs. 40 crore.
  • Prithvi Shaw, who was retained by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs. 35 crore.
  • Anrich Nortje, who was retained by Rajasthan Royals for Rs. 30 crore.
  • Abishek Porel, who was retained by Gujarat Titans for Rs. 25 crore.
  • Kuldeep Yadav, who was retained by Chennai Super Kings for Rs. 20 crore.
  • Axar Patel, who was retained by Mumbai Indians for Rs. 15 crore.
  • Lungi Ngidi, who was retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs. 10 crore.

Some of the star players who failed to attract bids or got low offers were:

  • Steve Smith and Josh Hazlewood, who were both sold to Chennai Super Kings for only Rs. 15 crore each.
  • Lockie Ferguson and Josh Hazlewood, who remained unsold despite having high base prices of Rs. 200 lakh each.
  • Shivam Mavi and Chetan Sakariya, who were both sold to Delhi Capitals for only Rs. 10 lakh each.
  • Mujeeb Rahman and Umesh Yadav, who were both sold to Mumbai Indians for only Rs. 5 lakh each.

The auction also saw some interesting trades, such as:

  • Shahbaz Ahmed, who was traded from Sunrisers Hyderabad to Lucknow Super Giants for an undisclosed amount.
  • Mayank Dagar, who was traded from Royal Challengers Bangalore to Lucknow Super Giants for an undisclosed amount.
  • Avesh Khan, who was traded from Rajasthan Royals to Lucknow Super Giants for an undisclosed amount.
  • Devdutt Padikkal, who was traded from Royal Challengers Bangalore to Lucknow Super Giants for an undisclosed amount.
  • Romario Shepherd, who was traded from Lucknow Super Giants to Mumbai Indians for an undisclosed amount.

The IPL governing body will announce the final squads of the participating teams after the auction is over.
