Students who appeared for their Class 12 boards in West Asia have clarity at last. The Central Board of Secondary Education has released the datesheet for the special Class 12 examinations, and admit cards go live for download today, October 12. The exams, spread over six days from October 23 to October 28, are for students in seven countries whose papers were cancelled earlier this year.

The move ends months of uncertainty for thousands of Indian students in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, where board examinations were called off this spring amid the prevailing regional situation. CBSE had put a special assessment scheme in place in March so results could still be declared on time, and those results came out on May 13 alongside the rest of the country. But the board also promised dissatisfied students a second shot, and that is exactly what this special exam window delivers.

Which students can appear

Not every Class 12 student in the region is eligible. The special examinations are only for candidates who had filled out the List of Candidates, or LOC, and wanted to appear for subjects in which the exams could not be conducted. If you were satisfied with your assessment-scheme result and never opted in, this schedule is not for you.

There is one important catch, and it is worth reading carefully: the marks scored in this special examination will be final. Whatever you score here will replace your earlier result entirely, for better or worse. So this is a decision to take after an honest look at your current marks and your preparation level.

Datesheet: subject-wise schedule

The examinations will be held in a single shift, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, with one exam centre fixed in each country based on the LOC data. Here is how the papers are lined up:

  • October 23: Political Science, Economics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics
  • October 24: Psychology, Business Studies, Physical Activity Trainer
  • October 26: Biology, Information Technology, Multimedia, Marketing, Artificial Intelligence
  • October 27: Home Science, Informatics Practices, Computer Science
  • October 28: English Core

A couple of scheduling quirks to note. Physical Activity Trainer and Artificial Intelligence papers will run only till 12:30 pm instead of 1:30 pm. And while the examinations controller has confirmed 40 subjects were cancelled across the seven countries, including 20 academic papers, only the subjects students opted for through the LOC process are on the timetable.

How to download the admit card

Admit cards are being released today and must be downloaded from the same login students used to apply. The process is straightforward:

  • Go to the official CBSE website at cbse.gov.in.
  • Look for the link labelled Special exam timetable on the home page.
  • Clicking it opens the datesheet PDF, where you can check your exam dates.
  • For the admit card, log in with the same credentials used during the application and download it from October 12 onwards.
  • Take a printout and keep it safe. You will need it at the exam centre.

CBSE has asked candidates to check their details, photograph and centre address carefully once the card is downloaded, and to contact their school immediately if anything looks off. With one centre per country, any error in the centre code or your personal details is best caught early.

Why this matters for students and parents

For families in the Gulf, this is more than an administrative exercise. Many students plan their university admissions in India and abroad around these results, and the May assessment results left some feeling their grades did not reflect their actual preparation. The special exams give them one controlled, fair chance to improve.

The October window is tight, though. With papers beginning October 23, students effectively have under two weeks from today. Revising full Class 12 syllabi in that time means being strategic: focus on high-weightage chapters, solve the sample papers CBSE issued this year, and avoid picking up new reference material at this stage.
